Pregnancy & Birth
Peace by Pins
with Robin — Acupuncturist, Pemberton BC
A digital acupressure guide for pregnancy, birth recovery, and postpartum. Designed for one-handed use at 2am.

The challenge
50%
For the first time in history, cesarean births have overtaken natural birth.
Women are leaving hospital without tools to support their own recovery. Robin — an acupuncturist and member of the Obstetrical Acupuncture Association — had the clinical knowledge to help. What she didn't have was a way to reach mothers at the moment they needed it most.
That moment is 2am. One hand free. A baby on your chest. A scar that aches. And a phone screen as the only source of help for the next two weeks until you see your midwife.
The approach
Designed for the 2am moment.
One tap to the answer
No dashboard. No course structure to navigate. An editorial contents page where a mother finds “C-section scar recovery” within a single tap. The information architecture was shaped entirely by urgency.
Two learning paths, one voice
Some mothers want to be told what to press and when. Others want to understand the Chinese medicine behind it. A gentle inline toggle reveals the theory without imposing it — like Robin leaning in and saying “oh, and if you’re curious…”
Mobile-first, one-handed
Every touch target is 44px minimum. Navigation sits in the thumb zone. Text is 17px and readable without zooming in a dark room. The entire product was designed for a mother holding her phone in one hand while feeding with the other.
Works offline, in a hospital
Progressive Web App with full offline capability. Content caches after first load. Dead zones in hospital corridors and rural BC clinics don’t matter — the guide is always available.
The product
Inside Peace by Pins
The homepage — editorial, not promotional

The course journey — 10 modules following preconception to postpartum

The dashboard — a typographic contents page, not a dashboard

A topic guide — practical acupressure instructions with point locations

The details
Craft in the quiet places.
The acupuncture pin hamburger
The mobile menu icon is two acupuncture pins. Most people never notice. The ones who do smile. It’s the kind of detail that signals “if they cared about this, imagine what the rest is like.”
Typography pairing
Playfair Display for warmth and elegance. DM Sans for clarity at small sizes in dark rooms. The serif carries the emotion. The sans carries the information.
Colour palette
Derived from Robin’s treatment room: warm white walls, dried sage in a vase, blush linen on the table. 95% neutral. Colour is earned, not scattered.
